Homemade Baked Beans
Store bought baked beans are a classic favourite among kids (and adults!) of all ages, but unfortunately they are full of sugar, colours and flavours and thickeners.
Here is a delicious version of this kid-friendly staple that you can feel confident serving to your family.
Fill them up with nutrition
Cannellini beans are a great source of protein and carbohydrates, which means they will keep your children fuller for longer. Beans are also full of fibre to support your little ones’ digestive health, while tomatoes are packed with potassium, which is great for the nervous system and muscles.
1 tbsp. olive oil
½ red onion diced
1 400g can cannellini beans
2 cups tomato passata
1 tbsp. brown rice syrup
Pinch of salt
1 Handful of spinach (optional)
Sautee the onion and olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat for 3 minutes.
Add the rest of the ingredients and cook for a further 10 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir through the spinach.
Serves 4 small side portions.
