Berry Chia Jam

It’s an undisputed fact that children love jam. Jam is so fruity it must be healthy, right? In truth, most of the fruit jams that you find at the supermarket are full of added sugar and have very little if anything in the way of real fruit.
Chia jam is so easy to make and equally as easy to eat. Great to add to plain yoghurt, porridge or toast, it’s refined sugar free and has no added preservatives or colours.
Packed with antioxidants and omega-3
Berries are high in antioxidants, which help fight free radicals caused by pollution, sun damage and processed food. Chia seeds are rich in omega-3 essential fatty acids, as well as being high in protein. Chia seeds also contain calcium, which is essential for strong bones and teeth.
3 cups frozen berries
150ml filtered water
1 tbsp. sweetener of choice (maple syrup, honey, brown rice syrup) Optional
3 tbsp. chia seeds
Place all ingredients in a saucepan except for the chia seeds.
Bring to the boil and cook until desired texture of berries is achieved.
Remove from the heat and add chia seeds.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 2 weeks.
Note: It may be easier to blend the berries with a stick blender to achieve the desired texture.
